For all patients having shoulder replacement surgery or knee replacement surgery, and for any patients with significant medical conditions, a thorough pre-operative assessment ensures that the procedure is carried out as safely as possible.
In addition to X-rays or scans for your orthopaedic condition, you may need to have some simple investigations including blood tests and an ECG which measures the electrical activity of your heart.
This may involve assessment by a specialist medical physician (internal medicine specialist) who will see you and review all of your relevant medical conditions.
If a physician assessment is necessary, an appointment will be made for you to be seen prior to your surgery. The same doctor will be involved in your care while you are in hospital.
The specialist medical physicians that Mr Chua works with are all very capable and caring doctors, and they all have extensive experience in peri-operative medicine.
